We love to visit New York for Broadway shows, we just did a short stay up there last week and really enjoyed it. Our first night we saw Moulin Rouge, The Musical, staring Boy George in a temporary role. What a great show as you enter a world of splendor and romance, of eye-popping excess, of glitz, grandeur and glory, you enter a world where Bohemians and aristocrats rub elbows and revel in electrifying enchantment. Pop the champagne and prepare for the spectacular spectacular. Welcome to Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The revolutionary film comes to life onstage, remixed in a new musical mash up extravaganza. A theatrical celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and above all there’s LOVE, Moulin Rouge! is more than a musical; it is a state of mind. The music from the 70’s was a blast, so much fun as it was so upbeat and you couldn’t help but sing along!!

The next night we saw Barry Manilow in concert at Radio City Music Hall what a great experience! We had the best seats pretty close to the beautiful stage, and for 80 years old this man can still perform! With worldwide record sales exceeding 80 million, Barry Manilow’s unparalleled career encompasses virtually every arena of entertainment, including performing, writing, composing, arranging, and producing. A Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Manilow has produced, arranged, and released more than 40 albums during the course of his career. It was so awesome to hear everyone know every word to every song and he enjoyed turning the mike to the audience for us to sing! He also does a duet with himself via a big screen singing “Mandy” on the piano from 1974 and then he comes out on the stage sitting down on a piano and singing, it was fantastic, brought the house down! Of course Copacabana had everyone on their feet and we loved the stories behind the music too. I hope he continues to perform as I would love to see him again. Barry has broken Elvis Presley’s record for longest Las Vegas run becoming the longest-resident artist there.

For first time visitors I always suggest a hop on hop off bus as you will see so much more of the City, it is huge and walking around isn’t really an option unless you can walk miles per day and have lots of free time. What’s nice is you can get off when you want to explore that area and then get back on the bus.

You don’t want to miss the 9/11 Memorial, it’s quite sad and you need tissues for sure but it was such a moving experience that shouldn’t be missed. Located at the World Trade Center in New York City, the 9/11 Memorial Museum tells the story of 9/11 through media, narratives, and a collection of monumental and authentic artifacts, presenting visitors with personal stories of loss, recovery, and hope.

You also don’t want to miss the iconic Empire State Building Observatory, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park (only in the daylight) plus some of the greatest museums in the World such as the American Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, and the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum. Times Square is a must see after dark but just watch your wallets and bags.
Another great way to see New York is by boat, world famous boats with award-winning guides, and breathtaking views of the New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Find your perfect cruise and see our city the way it’s meant to be seen, day, night, or try a sunset cruise.

When you go to New York to visit either for the wonderful shows, the awesome shopping, or the entertainment be sure to bring along a lot of money, it is one of the most expensive cities we have ever been. As we had a coupon we had brunch at our hotel, and it was ok, no omelet station, just food sitting around, orange juice and coffee, no champagne or any booze. We got the bill and before the voucher took off anything they added State tax, City tax, made up tax, plus server gratuity for a total of $94 for 2!!!
Welcome to New York City

I also have never seen as many pedicabs in New York before this visit. The price can be negotiated but when the shows got out their rates went up to $9 a MINUTE! I asked how long would it take to get to our hotel which was fairly close but with the traffic he said about 20 minutes. So he wanted $180 to go under a mile, we said no. As it got a little later their rates were going down to $7 a minute which again I say Welcome to New York!
So when you go just be prepared for everything in this City to be higher, hotels, food, transportation, and entertainment. It’s a great city I enjoy visiting but you can honestly spend more here in a weekend than you can for a week on vacation elsewhere.
